The Biden administration on Thursday announced the rollout of a new 30,000-per-month immigrant parole policy, a generous program that comes as the president warns immigrants to not cross into the U.S. illegally.
“Do not, do not just show up at the border," President Joe Biden said at the White House on Thursday. "Stay where you are and apply legally from there."
On Thursday the White House revealed a list of "new border enforcement actions" among which was an expanded "parole process" to migrants from the countries of Venezuela, Nicaragua, Haiti, and Cuba.
"Up to 30,000 individuals per month from these four countries, who have an eligible sponsor and pass vetting and background checks, can come to the United States for a period of two years and receive work authorization," the White House release said.
Biden while warning immigrants to pursue legal means of entrance to the U.S. argued that the new policies "will make things better," though he acknowledged that they "will not fix the border problem completely."
“I know it’s a complicated issue. I don’t want to pretend there is anything easy about it,” the president said.
