In a high-level meeting between American and Chinese representatives in Anchorage, Alaska last week, a top Chinese diplomat condemned human rights conditions in the U.S., particularly in light of the Black Lives Matter movement, concluding that the U.S. is in no position to advance its version of “American democracy” on the global stage.
In a much-anticipated meeting between U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, and a number of high-ranking Chinese officials, Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs director Yang Jiechi explained that China believes “it is important for the United States to change its own image and to stop advancing its own democracy in the rest of the world.”
In addition, Yang claimed that China only pursues paths “of peaceful development” and has successfully “engaged in tireless efforts to contribute to the peace and development of the world,”
In a blatant representation of Chinese propaganda, Yang asserted that China is against using force “to topple other regimes” or to pursue foreign policy, essentially pointing the finger at the U.S. saying that “some other countries” use such methods to “massacre the people of other countries.”
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is currently engaged in genocide against its own population, detaining upward of a million Uighur men, women, and children in the name of “counterterrorism” while continuing to unjustly imprison and torture those who dissent against the government.
However, Yang attempted to deflect attention from China’s own egregious human rights abuses, using talking points propagated by the mainstream media to declare that the U.S. must “do better on human rights” while China is making “steady progress.”
“The fact is that there are many problems within the United States regarding human rights, which is admitted by the U.S. itself as well,” said Yang.
Yang then pointed to Black Lives Matter to make his point, a movement organized by self-proclaimed Marxists.
“And the challenges facing the United States in human rights are deep-seated. They did not just emerge over the past four years, such as Black Lives Matter,” said Yang, who then said countries should not be “deflecting the blame on somebody else in the world.”
“Let me say here that, in front of the Chinese side, the United States does not have the qualification to say that it wants to speak to China from a position of strength.”
