Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday canceled a planned delegation trip to Washington, D.C., after the United States decided not to block a United Nations resolution calling for an immediate cease fire in Israel's war on Hamas.
His cancellation occurred minutes after the vote passed, according to Forbes.
As one of five so-called "permanent" members of the 15-member council, the U.S. could have killed the resolution with a "no" vote.
The U.S. instead voted absentee in the otherwise 14-0 vote.
The resolution, put forward by the 10 non-permanent members, demands an immediate ceasefire for the month of Ramadan, the immediate and unconditional release of hostages and “the urgent need to expand the flow” of aid into Gaza, according to CNN.
