On Thursday, U.S. military engineers installed the final components of a $320 million temporary pier in Gaza that will help facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the local population.
In a post on their X account, the United States Central Command announced that the first consignment of goods will be arriving via the sea within a few days.
The military command stressed that the United Nations would be tasked with receiving the shipments and that no American personnel would have any further involvement in the project.
"The U.S. military's only role in this effort is to provide our unique logistics capability to enable the delivery of lifesaving humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza by USAID and our international partners," CENTCOM Deputy Commander Vice Adm. Brad Cooper told reporters in London.
While further explaining the mission, Copper stated that the materials will be screened in Cyprus, palletized, shipped to an offshore platform near the new structure, then shuttled to the dockage area for distribution by trucks.
Israel will reportedly be responsible for maintaining security for the cargo and the work force while ashore.
