An off-duty Israeli soldier was murdered and a colleague wounded in a knife attack at a mall in Karmiel on Wednesday. Local police have suggested that the incident may have been terror related.
Security footage showed the two individuals walking by several storefronts before the perpetrator, identified as Jawwad Omar Rubia, stabbed one of the young men several times in the neck before assaulting the second victim.
Rubia, an Arab Israeli, was subsequently subdued with small arms fire from the two victims.
The deceased was identified as 19-year-old Aleksandr Lakiminskyi, a resident of Nahariya who served as a sergeant in the 188th Armored Brigade.
Both the Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorist organizations released statements praising the event.
