President Joe Biden said Wednesday he opposes any attacks on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear facilities which might occur in reaction to a massive missile bombardment directed at Israel Tuesday night.
“The answer is no,” Biden told a reporter as he boarded Air Force One to tour hurricane damage in North Carolina. “All seven of us agree that they have a right to respond, but they should respond in proportion.”
The president’s comments come after his administration consented with counterparts from G-7 nations to implement new sanctions on Tehran for their hour-long incursion, a terrorist endeavor resulting in almost 200 projectiles fired at multiple locations throughout the Jewish state.
The incident, largely neutralized by air defense systems, marked the second occasion this year the Iranian regime targeted Israeli territory in retaliation for Jerusalem's efforts to assassinate important allies and officials of the repressive autocracy.
Israeli news outlets report that shortly after the barrage ended, Israel's Security Cabinet opted for a strong response to the assault, while emphasizing the need to coordinate any actions with Washington and consider the upcoming U.S. presidential election.
During a Wednesday visit to the Tel Nof Airbase, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi confirmed a planned counteraction in a video statement, before warning that his forces can “reach and strike any point in the Middle East.”
