Conservative commentator Tucker Carlson is looking to interview Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to Russian state media.

Carlson "is strongly requesting an interview with Vladimir Putin," RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan said Sunday on RT, a Kremlin-controlled international media outlet funded by the Russian Government.

Simonyan also said Carlson "was thrown out of Fox News even though he didn't say anything especially radical! He just didn't sing in tune with the rest of the choir. So they threw him out," according to Newsweek.

Carlson, who hosted the popular "Tucker Carlson Tonight" before leaving Fox News earlier this year, has not responded to request for comment from Just the News via X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Carlson criticized media coverage of Russia's invasion of Ukraine during his first show posted to X in June after the media suggested Russia was responsible for destroying a dam in Ukrainian territory that Russia controls.

"Once the facts start coming in, it becomes much less a mystery what happened to the dam," he said at the time. "Any fair person would conclude that the Ukrainians probably blew it up."
