An Israeli Border Police officer was murdered and at least nine others were wounded in a Sunday afternoon shooting attack at the Beersheba Central Bus Station.

The event unfolded when the suspected gunman, identified as Ahmad al-Uqbi, an Israeli citizen from a Bedouin community, allegedly opened fire with an unspecified type of firearm at a McDonald’s restaurant located within the transit facility.

A police spokesperson said the perpetrator, who had a prior criminal history, was dispatched by IDF soldiers at the scene.

The deceased victim, 19-year-old Sgt. Shira Suslik, was reported to have succumbed to her injuries after being transported to the Soroka Medical Center.

According to Israel’s Kan public broadcaster, al-Uqbi is related to Muhanad al-Uqbi, who executed an identical action at the same site in 2015.

The incident follows a similar occurrence on Tuesday, when two residents of Hebron used a semi-automatic rifle to kill seven passengers at the Ehrlich light rail station in Jaffa.
