The State Department announced on Wednesday that an anticipated report on Israel’s conduct during the war in Gaza will be released "in the coming days."
The investigation was requested by Congressional Democrats in February to determine if the Jewish state is in violation of the 1997 Leahey Amendment, which forbids U.S. financial assistance to any security, military, or police agency that violates international humanitarian standards.
Several Israeli military units have already been individually investigated by the Biden administration for alleged infringement of the measure.
The soon-to-be-released memorandum comes as Reuters reported last month that several senior officials involved in drafting the opinion have expressed doubts that Israel is compliant with the regulation.
Jerusalem has always maintained that its soldiers operate under strict codes of conduct, follow international law, and address misbehavior through independent judicial authorities.
