President Joe Biden told reporters on Sunday he is planning to ask Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to avert a regional war after the IDF conducted a series of Friday airstrikes in Lebanon that eliminated Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and more than 20 of his associates.

While boarding Air Force One at Dover Air Force Base, Biden responded “It has to be; we really have to avoid it,” when asked if increased hostilities could be prevented.

Biden’s remarks echoed comments made in a Saturday statement on Nasrallah’s death, where he confirmed “our aim is to de-escalate the ongoing conflicts in both Gaza and Lebanon through diplomatic means.”

The operation against Nasrallah preceded additional maneuvers throughout the weekend that targeted dozens of locations used by the Tehran-backed militia to attack the Jewish state.

The White House’s call for restraint comes as the Islamic Republic’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, vowed to retaliate for Israel’s actions, promising the incursion will “not go unanswered.”

The Deputy of Operations for the Iran regime’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Abbas Nilforoushan, was reported to have been killed alongside Nasrallah in the incident.
