On Friday, the European Union imposed sanctions on Hamas and Islamic Jihad for the sexual abuse of Jewish women during the October 7 massacre in southern Israel.
“The Council decided today to list three entities under the E.U. Global Human Rights Sanctions Regime in view of their responsibilities in the brutal and indiscriminate terrorist attacks that occurred across Israel on 7 October 2023,” a press release said.
The three sanctioned organizations are Islamic Jihad’s Al-Quds Brigades and Hamas’s Nukhba Force and Qassam Brigades.
E.U. investigators confirmed that during the rampage, the perpetrators "committed widespread sexual and gender-based violence in a systematic manner, using it as a weapon of war," and engaged in “the rape and subsequent murder of female minors, mutilation of corpses, as well as genital mutilation.”
The terror groups will now face asset freezes, travel restrictions, and the prohibition of others providing them with financial support.
