Hamas Leadership Will Relocate to Iraq Under Tehran’s Protection: Report

The leadership of Hamas will relocate to Iraq from their current headquarters in Doha, according to a Monday report by The National.

Sources told the news provider that the arrangement was approved by the government in Baghdad last month and that the terrorist organization will be protected by the Islamic Republic.

Earlier this month, Hamas opened a political office in the Iraqi capital, led by senior associate Mohammed Al Hafy, and is expected to launch an affiliated media facility in the coming weeks.

The news comes as The Wall Street Journal reported in April that the Qatari government, their hosts since 2012, have been apprehensive of continuing their relationship with the terror group since they ordered the October 7 rampage in southern Israel.

In addition to wanting to distance themselves from the jihadists, The National claimed that Hamas’s leader, Ismail Haniyeh, was warned by officials in Qatar of possible expulsion and financial discontinuation if he did not show more flexibility in the Gaza ceasefire negotiations.
