On Thursday, Hamas released the remains of four bodies, which were supposed to include hostage Shiri Bibas and her two children Ariel, 4, and Kfir, 9 months.
Israeli authorities identified the bodies of the two children, but determined that the body labeled as Shiri Bibas was an unidentified woman from Gaza.
The incident sparked outrage in Israel, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowing that Israel will “avenge” the dead hostages and “ensure that Hamas pays the full price” for the murder of Mrs. Bibas and her children, according to the Associated Press.
The Bibas family had become a global symbol of the plight of Israeli hostages held by Hamas.
A video taken during Hamas’ October 7th attack showed a terrified Shiri Bibas clutching her two children as she was driven into Gaza by Hamas terrorists.
A month later, Hamas claimed that Shiri and her children were killed by an Israeli airstrike.
Israel disputes these claims and says that forensic analysis shows the two young children were murdered by Hamas terrorists.
Hamas said it sent the wrong remains by accident and released another body on Friday, which Israeli authorities confirmed was Shiri Bibas, according to ABC News.
