Israeli military officials announced that forces stationed beyond the Jewish state’s northern border destroyed a Hezbollah tunnel originating from a site near the Lebanese town of Marwahin.
The 65-foot-long underground structure was reportedly detected by intelligence units two years ago, and it remained under surveillance until it was rendered inoperable on Tuesday.
The IDF indicated the tunnel, extending 32 feet into Israel's territory with no identified southern access point, was the only known secret entryway into the country from Lebanon.
Before its destruction, soldiers confiscated anti-tank missiles, a cache of small arms, and explosives stored at the location.
The incident came a week after Jerusalem ordered the commencement of Operation Northern Arrows, a ground incursion into Lebanon to dismantle Hezbollah’s terrorist infrastructure.
