Israel’s Kan News reported on Tuesday that the head of the Mossad intelligence service, David Barnea, and the leader of the Shin Bet security agency, Ronen Bar, will meet with U.S. and Arab mediators in Doha for the latest round of ceasefire discussions related to the war in Gaza.
The two individuals will attend a Wednesday gathering that will reportedly include U.S. Central Intelligence Agency Director William Burns, Egyptian General Intelligence Directorate chief Abbas Kamel, and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
The negotiations in Qatar follow a series of meetings earlier this week in Cairo between Burns, White House regional envoy Brett McGurk, and senior Egyptian officials.
The development comes as The Associated Press reported on Monday that Hamas has removed its longstanding demand that the Jewish state agree to a total cessation of fighting as a condition to free any remaining hostages and end the nine-month-long conflict in the coastal enclave.
The engagement will be Barnea’s second visit to the Persian Gulf country this month.
