A new report Wednesday from the local Israeli broadcast Kan found that the Lebanon-based Shiite terrorist group, Hezbollah, has sent its forces to invade Israel's sovereign territory, creating a military position in the past days.
According to the report, Knesset lawmakers held a closed-door Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee discussion with Prime Minister Benjamin (Bibi) Netanyahu regarding the latest efforts by Hezbollah to attack Israel. Lawmakers said the incident occurred in "recent weeks," when a Hezbollah cell crossed the border into Israel and created a "military position with two tents" operated by armed Hezbollah fighters.
The tents were put-up near Har Dov, a position in the northern part of Israel across from an Israeli military base.
Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers saw the infiltration but did not respond at first, despite observing it for several weeks.
"The issue is serious and is being dealt with by the relevant authorities," the IDF told Kan.
Israel's Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, commented on the situation while traveling to the country's northern border to observe an IDF military exercise.
"I hear our enemies bragging about various weapon developments for anything like that; we have a better answer in the air, at sea, and on land, in the defensive and offensive efforts," Gallant told reporters.
"We know how to protect the citizens of Israel and how to strike our enemies with an eternal blow if, God forbid, they start a war against us," he added.
For the past several years, Israeli defense officials have sounded the alarm over tensions on Israel's northern border, saying that the Islamic Republic-backed Lebanese Hezbollah terrorist group and its leader, Hassan Nasrallah, are preparing to attack Israel thanks to the weaponry Tehran has provided in the last decade.
Since the 1980s, Hezbollah has continued to grow in the Southern portion of Lebanon, participating in rocket attacks alongside Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) against Israel.
In speeches given to followers of the terrorist fighters, Hezbollah leadership has called for the destruction of the Jewish state, calling on Muslim followers to attack Israeli military forces and citizens.
Last year, in a speech to his followers, Nasrallah bragged about Hezbollah's military weaponry from Iran, including precision missile projects, precision-guided missiles, and UAVs.
In May of this year, Israel's Foreign Ministry found that the Islamic Republic-backed terrorist group created no fewer than 27 military posts along the demarcation line separating Israel and Lebanon. The posts were created under the disguise of Green without Borders, a Hezbollah-linked organization that poses as an environmental NGO.
