An apparent breach of the New York Post’s Twitter feed was identified Thursday morning by GOP strategist Alec Sears and New Busters Editor Curtis Houck, who at 9:20 a.m. reported the incident.
“Looks like someone got access to the New York Post website backend and is changing headlines and then republishing the stories on social media automatically,” Sears wrote. “Whether this was a disgruntled employee or a hack, this is a perfect example of why News Outlets (and other orgs) should not automate their social media posts.”
Houck confirmed Sears’ observations, writing, “#BREAKING: The NYPOST’s website and Twitter account are being hacked.”
Among the tweets posted were comments falsely depicting a fake Ben Shapiro New York Post Column titled, “We must assassinate AOC for America,” and another fake piece by columnist Miranda Devine titled, “We must murder Joe and Hunter Biden.”
The false tweets also depicted fake news stories saying that New York Rep. Lee Zeldin said he would “rape and murder” Gov. Kathy Hochul, another falsely depicting Texas Gov. Greg Abbott would “order the Border Patrol to start slaughtering illegals” and a separate false story with a racist headline about NYC Mayor Eric Adams, saying he was "NYC’s fried chicken eating monkey.”
