For three weeks now, Iranians, mainly Iranian women, have protested against their regime and its morality police. The unprecedented demonstrations of defiance were inspired by 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who was reportedly killed by officers after she was detained for not properly wearing a hijab. The protests were quick to receive international intention, but will they be effective enough to create change? Lisa Daftari, an Iranian-American journalist and editor-in-chief of The Foreign Desk, discusses why these protests are about far more than the nation’s religious dress code and why the Iranian regime should be very concerned about this ongoing uprising.
