New reports Tuesday revealed Saudi Arabia shared intelligence with United States counterparts suggesting that an attack on the Kingdom from Iran is imminent. In response, American officials have said that the warning has put it and Middle Eastern nations on high alert. This latest development comes as the Islamic Republic of Iran continues cracking down on Iranian citizens protesting against the regime and its human rights abuses.
According to reports, Saudi officials believe that Iran’s regime is poised to carry out imminent attacks on targets in Saudi Arabia and Erbil, Iraq to distract from the widespread protests that have garnered international attention and scrutiny of the regime.
“We are concerned about the threat picture, and we remain in constant contact through military and intelligence channels with the Saudis,” said a spokesperson for the U.S. National Security Council.
The spokesperson further stated that America "will not hesitate to act in the defense of our interests and partners in the region."
The Islamic Republic of Iran has continuously engaged in violent terror attacks on Saudi Arabia ever since Iran became an Islamic theocracy.
Through its terrorist proxies in Yemen and supporters in Saudi Arabia, the Islamic military branch of the regime, the Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), has attacked Saudi Arabian oil shipments in the Persian Gulf and oil facilities in the Gulf Arab state, using military drones.
Currently, the Islamic government in Tehran faces an increasing amount of opposition over the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini at the hands of the Islamic morality police.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and President Ebrahim Raisi have blamed the protests on foreign nations seeking to overthrow the Islamic Republic. Recently, Iran attacked the Kurdistan region in the northern Iraq, the capital of which is Erbil, shelling and killing dozens.
Despite the ongoing crackdowns, demonstrators continue to show their anger publicly in the face of security forces' attempts to quash dissent. Various human rights groups estimate that hundreds of Iranians have been killed and thousands have been arrested by regime security forces.
