The United States is investigating the online publication of classified materials allegedly detailing recent planning by Israel’s Air Force and Navy for a potential strike on the Islamic Republic, three officials informed The Associated Press on Sunday.

The sources revealed to the news outlet that the inquiry will be led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and will focus on how the information was obtained and whether any additional files were compromised in the incident.

The two leaked reports from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency showed an analysis of satellite imagery indicating the IDF was reallocating military equipment for uses not needed for their operations in Gaza or Lebanon. The author proposed that this arrangement is likely to be in preparation for a response to the missile attack on Israel ordered by Tehran on October 1.

The interpretations also feature commentary from the National Security Agency about Israeli military exercises conducted earlier this month. These drills were presumably aimed at practicing for the initial incursion and included the positioning of defensive systems intended to counter a retaliatory action from the theocracy.

A former U.S. intelligence official told The Washington Free Beacon that the documents appear to have been removed from a computer system accessible to "thousands upon thousands" of federal employees. The individual raised concerns about the top-secret classification of the assessments, suggesting they should have been restricted to a select group of viewers.

The summaries, dated October 15 and 16, were discovered on Friday after they were posted on a Telegram account known to promote propaganda favorable to the Iranian regime.
