New York City's Democratic Mayor Eric Adams on Thursday announced that he will be meeting with President-elect Donald Trump's incoming border czar Tom Homan next week.

Adams expressed hope last month that the Trump administration would do more to help him battle the sudden surge of illegal immigrants and rising crime rates from those migrants. Homan said he was willing to meet with the mayor last week.

The New York Democrat said the meeting will take place next Thursday, on Dec. 12, and said he hopes to hear Homan's actual plans for cracking down on border security.

“I am looking forward to sitting down and speaking with the border czar next week,” Adams said on MSNBC. “I want to hear the actual plan and how are we going to operationalize the plan."

Adams has thrown support behind deporting illegal immigrants in New York City who commit serious crimes and pose a risk to national security.

"We're not talking about those who stealing an apple," he said. "We are talking about those who are shooting at police officers, raping individuals, and I would like to hear the border czar's plan on addressing that."

The mayor has pushed President Joe Biden's administration to provide more funding for sanctuary cities who are dealing with the influx of illegal immigrants who entered the country over the past four years. He has also pushed for tighter border security, that ensures every migrant who enters the U.S. passes a background check.

New York City has received over 210,000 illegal immigrants over the past two years on its own, as of October.
