An Iranian woman is facing a criminal investigation after she streamed a performance of "Karvansara Concert" on YouTube Wednesday while she was not wearing a headscarf.

Judicial authorities in the Islamic Republic announced the day after the engagement that singer and composer Parastoo Ahmadi and her band members’ actions "lacked any legal authorization and did not comply with the country’s legal and cultural standards."

Although specific charges were not disclosed in the complaint, the regime in Tehran prohibits its female citizens from appearing outside of their homes without a head covering or wearing attire considered immodest under Islamic law. Ahmadi, who wore a sleeveless dress, appears to contravene both conditions during her 27-minute recital.

In addition to the dress code infractions, the theocratic government is likely to consider the incident a violation of directives disallowing women from singing in public.

In 2022, the 27-year-old from Nowshahr was arrested for participating in the nationwide protests following the death of Kurdish-Iranian Mahsa Amini, who passed away after being detained by the country’s morality police for allegedly wearing her hijab incorrectly.
