On Sunday, police in the Selnau neighborhood of Zürich, announced the arrest of a teenager on suspicion of stabbing a Jewish individual multiple times in what they believe was an antisemitic assault.

The incident, reportedly against an unnamed 50-year-old man, was said to have happened at 9:35pm on Saturday night during an argument involving multiple persons. A law enforcement spokesperson said that the victim was “critically injured with a stabbing weapon,” and that the injuries inflicted were "life-threatening."

The suspect, described as a 15-year-old “Swiss citizen,” was detained with the help of bystanders before the police arrived to remand him into custody. A witness told The Jerusalem Post that the accused referenced the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem during the battery.

The Swiss Organization of Jewish Communities released a statement stating that they were, “deeply shocked that a community member fell victim to such an attack,” and that “there has been a significant increase in such physical attacks since Oct. 7.”

After the occurrence, city authorities announced that they would be increasing security around Jewish institutions until further notice.
