On Wednesday, the United States military announced its forces carried out airstrikes earlier this week against multiple locations in central Syria where Islamic State militants were based.

U.S. Central Command reported that up to 35 individuals were eliminated in the early evening operations aimed at the terror group’s infrastructure and senior leadership.

CENTCOM described the maneuvers in a statement on X as necessary to “disrupt the ability of ISIS to plan, organize, and conduct attacks against civilians, as well as U.S. allies, and partners throughout the region and beyond.”

The incursions follow Pentagon warnings in July indicating ISIS was on track to double the number of violent engagements committed by their affiliates compared to 2023, which could potentially lead to a resurgence of the Islamist organization.
