An Iranian boy band praising the Islamic Republic’s founder Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in an English propaganda music video has gone viral.
The music video shows the 11 members of “Safir Eshgh International Symphony Ensemle” singing in English at Khomeini’s mausoleum with his tomb in the background. The boys begin by taking off their shoes to enter the holy site.
In typical boy band fashion, the members of the group repeat the chorus in harmony:“The world will read on the forehead of time; Khomeini’s name shining dawn till dawn; So Iran will forever last and of course; Khomeini is the second name of Iran.”
Soloists eulogize the Ayatollah, singing, “Khomeini was the rising sun of Islam; So he came when the darkest night it was; What he brought was not just a revolution; But a blast, yes a blast of light it was.”
The video first appeared on Aparat, an Iranian video sharing platform based in Iran, this week and was uploaded in both English and Farsi.
The release of the music video coincides with the June 3 anniversary of Khomeini’s death, 31 years ago.
Khomeini, recognized as the father of the Islamic revolution of 1979, was the supreme political and religious authority of Iran for 10 years after the toppling of the Shah, transforming Iran into an Islamic state.
Ironically, during this time, he banned all music from radio and television.
