Pro-Palestine protesters vandalized a veteran's cemetery in Los Angeles with the messages of "Intifada" and "Free Gaza," as well as a Hamas-affiliated symbol of an upside-down triangle.

The Los Angeles National Cemetery, which is the final resting place of about 85,000 veterans, said Tuesday afternoon on Facebook that the LA County Anti-Graffiti unit cleaned up the spray paint.

Even though pictures of the graffiti appeared online Saturday, the cemetery did not comment on the issue online until Tuesday morning, writing on Facebook that "any act of vandalism is unacceptable" and that an "investigation is ongoing."

Meanwhile, Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., tweeted Sunday about the graffiti, which happened in his district.

"More proof that the people who hate #Israel, also hate America," he wrote on X, formerly Twitter, along with pictures of the graffiti.

The term "Intifada" is used to refer to two violent Palestinian uprisings against Israel, with the most recent one ending in 2005. The two Intifadas, which included suicide bombings against Israeli civilians, resulted in the deaths of about 1,400 Israelis and 5,000 Palestinians, per Encyclopedia Britannica.

The red triangle is a symbol inspired by the Palestinian flag but is frequently used in Hamas propaganda videos to mark the location of an Israeli soldier before they are hit.

Protests in support of Palestine broke out en masse after Hamas and other terror groups from the Gaza Strip invaded Israel on Oct. 7, killing about 1,200 people and kidnapping 240 others. The Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between civilian and militant casualties, says 22,000 people have died.
