A Chinese media outlet said the U.S. only supports Israel as a result of the influence of “wealthy Jews” and to protect U.S. oil interests in the region as escalations between Israel and the Gaza Strip continue.
“Turning a blind eye to the Palestine-Israel issue where Israel has an absolute advantage comes only natural for the U.S. to serve its hegemonism,” said the Chinese-government affiliated news channel CGTN broadcasted in English Tuesday.
CGTN propagated the narrative that the Jewish lobby and money are the primary motivators for U.S. allyship with Israel, an anti-Semitic sentiment that has been embraced by many in the mainstream media and even within the U.S. Congress.
In 2019, Rep. Ilhan Omar tweeted, “It’s all about the Benjamin’s baby,” implying that the U.S. relationship with Israel was not based on shared principles but was motivated by money.
“Some people believe that U.S. pro-Israel policy is traceable to the influence of wealthy Jews in the U.S. and the Jewish lobby on U.S. foreign policy makers…Jews dominate finance, media, and Internet sectors,” said CGTN’s Zheng Junfeng.
Junfeng continued on to describe Israel as a “U.S. proxy” through which Arab nationalism was defeated when Israel won the 1967 Six-Day War.
“Arab nationalism is an idea that the Arab world should exist for the Arabs, not Jewish settlers and U.S. oil companies. Apparently, the U.S. did not like that idea, and Israel did a great service to Washington and U.S. oil interests,” said Junfeng.
These anti-Israel and anti-U.S. narratives spun by the Chinese media and government officials are deliberate attempts to wreak havoc on American society, according to China expert and author of Feeding the Dragon Chris Fenton.
“Chinese media outlets, thanks to the freedoms the United States provides them on our soil of democracy, have activated an aggressive, wolf warrior agenda of igniting fire around any geopolitical or domestic issue that can potentially further divide our great nation,” said Fenton to The Foreign Desk.
“Such a tactic also deflects American attention and pressure away from key issues that China must address in areas ranging from human rights abuse to trade imbalances to national security concerns.”
Last week, China piled on further criticism of the U.S. response to the Israel-Palestinian conflict.
“The #US claims that it cares about the #HumanRights of #Muslims. But it turns a blind eye to the sufferings of #Palestinian Muslims in recent clashes between #Israel and #Palestine,” tweeted China’s Minister of Foreign Affairs spokesperson.
The international community has been increasingly critical of the Chinese government’s genocide against its Uighur population in the Xinjiang region where Muslim minorities are being reportedly placed in re-education camps, women are being systematically raped and forced sterilizations are taking place.
