The Iran regime’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced early Wednesday that the leader of the Hamas terrorist organization, Ismail Haniyeh, was assassinated along with an accompanying bodyguard in Tehran.

Haniyeh was visiting the theocracy, away from his normal residence in Qatar, to attend the Tuesday inauguration of newly elected President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Regime officials have not given any details on how the 62-year-old was killed, but state media in the Islamic Republic have been blaming Israel for arranging his death.

A spokesperson for Hamas expressed similar sentiments in a statement that claimed he was dispatched in "a treacherous Zionist raid on his residence in Tehran."

Haniyeh’s elimination comes as he and his associates have been under continuing pressure from the Biden administration to agree to a ceasefire and hostage agreement to end the almost ten-month-long war with the Jewish state in Gaza.

There has been no comment from Jerusalem on the matter.
