Israeli authorities announced Wednesday that they had confiscated two caches of military materials from the Islamic Republic near Jenin for use by terrorists in the West Bank.
“The seized weapons are part of an ongoing Iranian campaign to destabilize security in the region by arming terror cells in Judea and Samaria whose goal is to carry out attacks against Israeli citizens and IDF troops,” the Shin Bet internal security agency said in a statement.
The joint operation with the IDF uncovered enemy-activated mines, RPG launchers, 166 mm mortars, 107 mm rockets, and an assortment of rifles and handguns. The captured ordnance was described as being of high quality.
Officials identified Unit 4000 and the Syrian-based Unit 18840 from the Iran regime’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as the entities responsible for managing these arms shipments.
On Tuesday, Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, confirmed his office had received permission from the Knesset to begin construction of a security barrier along the Jewish state’s border with Jordan, the likely point of entry for the contraband. This international boundary has for years faced criticism for lacking the robust protections found in other parts of the country.
