On Thursday, U.S. President Joe Biden suggested his administration is contemplating the approval of military strikes by Israel on the Islamic Republic’s petroleum sector in response to this week's extensive missile attacks on the Jewish state.

When asked by a reporter if he would support a retaliatory incursion against the Iran regime’s oil infrastructure, Biden replied, "We're discussing that. I think that would be a little… anyway," before appearing to have been lost in thought.

“First of all, we don’t allow Israel. We advise Israel. And there’s nothing going to happen today. We’ll talk about that later,” he added.

The comments follow a Wednesday warning to Jerusalem from Biden, indicating the White House and its G7 allies oppose any actions against Tehran’s facilities that support its illicit nuclear program.

The IDF is reportedly planning a reprisal for the Tuesday bombardment, which saw the Iranian regime deploy at least 180 projectiles targeting multiple locations in Israeli territory. Shortly after the incident, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the endeavor “a big mistake” and promised those responsible "will pay a heavy price.”

The president’s remarks immediately sent crude prices up by 5.1 percent to settle at $77.62 after opening this week below $72.
