Israel announced on Tuesday that the IDF’s 162nd Division took control of the border entry between Rafah and Egypt.
“Following intelligence that indicated that the Rafah Crossing in eastern Rafah was being used for terrorist purposes, IDF troops managed to establish operational control of the Gazan side of the crossing,” defense officials said in a statement on the action.
The international land crossing was the last Gazan entry point not currently under Israeli supervision.
The operation came after the IDF undertook a series of “targeted” airstrikes in the eastern section of Rafah prior to the deployment of ground forces and after 100,000 civilians were evacuated to demilitarized areas.
20 Hamas terrorists were reported to have been eliminated in the fighting.
In an accompanying maneuver, the Givati Brigade separately secured a major thoroughfare in the city.
