The Islamic Republic has arrested more than 700 individuals under the suspicion of collaborating with Israel since the start of the June 13 hostilities between the two regional adversaries, according to a report by the Fars News Agency.
The regime claims the abductees engaged in direct support for Israeli intelligence agencies that included gathering and transmitting sensitive data, building and operating unmanned aerial vehicles, and fabricating explosive devices.
The state-controlled broadcaster said suspects were apprehended in Fars, Isfahan, Kermanshah, Khuzestan, Lorestan, and Tehran. Over the past three days, at least six of the detainees have been executed by hanging.
The France-based human rights organization Association Femme Azadi alleged on social media that the prisoners include Jewish religious leaders in the country.
The repressive actions come in the wake of recent legislative changes passed by the Islamic Republic’s parliament, which permit the judiciary to impose extraordinary legal procedures on persons suspected of cooperating with “hostile states.”
