America and Russia have sent representatives to Saudi Arabia and are expected to begin peace talks on Tuesday to end the war in Ukraine.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other high-ranking American officials arrived in Saudi Arabia’s capital of Riyadh on Monday.

The same day, the Kremlin announced that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov would fly to Riyadh to speak with U.S. representatives about the “restoration” of America-Russia relations.

This follows a phone call last week between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. During the call, Trump and Putin agreed to start negotiations “immediately” over the fate of Ukraine.

Ukrainian and European officials have criticized America for excluding Ukraine from both the phone call and the negotiations set to begin in Saudi Arabia.
