A court in the United Kingdom convicted a British man of planning to detonate a homemade bomb at a Royal Air Force base in North Yorkshire and a hospital in Leeds in January 2023.
Mohammad Farooq, a nursing student, was found guilty at Sheffield Crown Court of preparing acts of terrorism after the 28-year-old was arrested carrying knives, an imitation firearm, and a pressure cooker bomb at the St. James Hospital where he worked.
Prosecutors alleged that Farooq chose his workplace as a target after he determined that the military installation would be too difficult to infiltrate.
After his arrest, Islamist propaganda published by Al Qaeda was reportedly found on his electronic devices.
The defendant pleaded guilty to some related charges prior to his trial.
