British authorities are investigating the stabbing of a television journalist outside of his London home on Friday, as possibly related to his critical reporting on the Iran regime.
Pouria Zeraati, a news anchor at the Iran International news outlet, was admitted to the hospital in stable condition, and was reported to have been released on Sunday.
Metropolitan Police announced that due to the victim’s employer being a notable critic of the government in Tehran, the event triggered a counterterrorism probe.
“While we continue to assess the circumstances of this incident, detectives are following a number of lines of inquiry and our priority at this time is to try and identify whoever was behind this attack and to arrest them,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.
Last year, Iran International moved their headquarters from the U.K. to Washington D.C. for seven months amid what they described as “state-backed threats from Iran.”
The Iranian Embassy in London has denied any participation in the incident.
