The Islamic Republic’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in Cairo on Thursday, marking the first diplomatic trip by the regime’s top diplomat to the North African country since 2013.
The two individuals reportedly discussed regional developments amid rising tensions over an expected Israeli reprisal for an October 1 missile attack on the Jewish state, which was ordered by authorities in Tehran.
The audience took place two days after Saudi Arabia’s Prime Minister and de facto ruler, Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman, visited Egypt to review the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon with al-Sisi and other senior officials.
Araghchi, currently on a multi-nation tour of the Middle East, arrived in the capital city after meeting in Amman with his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi, and King Abdullah II.
