The Israeli military said on Thursday that it is prepared for any retaliatory action that the Iran regime may commit in the wake of the April 1 airstrike on the Islamic Republic’s embassy in Damascus. The Jewish state is suspected of being responsible for conducting the operation.
“We are braced and ready, on high alert, defensively and offensively,” IDF spokesperson Adm. Daniel Hagari said in a televised statement.
The new security augmentations come as Bloomberg reported on Wednesday that United States intelligence officials warned Jerusalem to expect the possibility of major missile or drone strikes directed at their territory, either from Iran or by one of their many regional proxies.
On Wednesday night, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei renewed his threats, telling the state-controlled IRNA news agency that Israel “made a mistake, and it should be punished and will be punished.”
The situation has caused the IDF to strengthen air defense systems, activate reservist units, cancel some military leaves, and disrupt local GPS communications.
As a result of the current situation, the U.S. Embassy announced that their staff will only be allowed to travel to Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Be’er Shiva.
