The Israeli military stated that it carried out a series of airstrikes Monday, targeting sites along Syria's border with Lebanon, which officials identified as smuggling routes used by Hezbollah to transfer materials provided by the regime in Iran.

The operation focused on locations around the Jusiyah border crossing in Homs province, hitting infrastructure associated with Hezbollah’s Unit 4400, the terror group’s detachment responsible for expediting the delivery of weapons and equipment from Tehran to its allies in Lebanon.

State media in Damascus confirmed reports of explosions and damage to several bridges and roads in the area.

Israel’s Air Force has struck other ports of entry in recent months, including an incursion in October that destroyed a more than 2-mile-long transportation tunnel traversing Lebanese and Syrian territory.

Officials in Jerusalem have long alleged the region houses numerous warehouses and storage facilities overseen by Syrian security agents who cooperate in the distribution of the dangerous contraband.

Hezbollah is estimated to receive between $700 million and $1 billion in annual assistance from the Islamic Republic.
