The Hamas terrorist organization released a video on Wednesday of Israeli American hostage Hersh Goldberg-Polin.
His message, posted on the terror group’s Telegram account, was reportedly the first evidence confirming that the 23-year-old was still alive.
In the three-minute edited remarks, the son of Chicago area natives appeared thin and distressed while he described his living conditions as an "underground hell" that has left him “without water, food, or sun, and without treatment I have needed for so long.”
Goldberg-Polin also criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government for not agreeing to Hamas’s negotiation demands.
Many other captives held in Gaza have made similar statements, likely under extreme duress.
Goldberg-Polin was shown missing his left hand and forearm, confirming witness reports from the Supernova music festival that he sustained a serious injury when he attempted to remove an active grenade from a bunker that he was sheltering in.
White House officials told reporters that they had received the video on Monday and that they were in contact with his family.
Goldberg-Polin referenced his 200th day in captivity, suggesting that his comments were recorded recently.
