In an effort to ensure that terrorists do not commandeer any more hospitals for military purposes, Israeli officials announced Tuesday that the IDF has secured the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis.
According to the IDF, members of the Commando Brigade entered the medical facility “to make sure that the Hamas terror organization does not establish its infrastructure there again.”
While conducting operations, the soldiers were reported to have arrested “dozens” of militants, as well as seized a cache of weapons.
The detained were later turned over to intelligence units for further interrogation.
The incursion comes as Israel released interview footage last week of captured Hamas and Islamic Jihad members confirming that they used Gaza’s largest medical center, Shifa Hospital, as a command and logistics base to attack Israeli forces in the area.
International law requires that medical buildings be demilitarized during times of conflict.
