Israel’s National Security Council issued a safety advisory on Sunday to its citizens who are planning on attending this week’s Olympic Games in Paris.
The guidelines warned that “events such as this represent a preferred target for threats and attacks from various terror groups, because of the potential for wide media impact,” while suggesting that spectators avoid confrontation, especially when related to the war in Gaza.
In addition to maintaining situational awareness, the statement recommended that travelers download the IDF’s Home Front Command smart-phone app so they can be provided with necessary security-related information.
The bulletin noted that French authorities have recently arrested several individuals who they suspect were planning Islamic State-inspired terrorist operations during the prestigious athletic competition.
