Seven individuals were murdered and at least eight wounded on Tuesday night when a gunman, accompanied by a knife-wielding accomplice, attacked passengers at the Ehrlich light rail station in Jaffa with what appeared to be an AR-platform rifle.
The two perpetrators reportedly continued their rampage outside of the public transit facility, targeting pedestrians along nearby Jerusalem Street before they were shot by a municipal security officer and several armed civilians.
The assailants were identified by investigators as Hebron residents, Mehmed Khalaf Saher Rajab and Hassan Mohammed Hassan Tamimi.
Israel’s Magen David Adom emergency services agency reported that six of the injured suffered serious trauma before they were transported to the Wolfson Medical Center in Holon and Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Medical Center.
Israeli Police Commissioner Daniel Levy visited the crime scene before telling reporters his organization had no prior intelligence related to the “grave incident.”
