The United States ambassador in Lebanon presented a ceasefire proposal to the speaker of Lebanon’s parliament, according to a report by Reuters.
Two Lebanese sources informed the news outlet that Ambassador Lisa Johnson delivered the document to Nabih Berri during a Tuesday meeting with the senior politician in Beirut.
The measure follows the White House's efforts to end the nearly two-month-long military conflict in the Middle Eastern country, which Israel has been conducting against the Islamic Republic-backed Hezbollah militia.
Washington's peace initiatives have primarily centered on strengthening the enforcement of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701, a 2006 agreement mandating Hezbollah disarm and refrain from maintaining a presence south of the Litani River.
Jerusalem insists its ongoing maneuvers are essential to protect the residents in the northern regions of the Jewish state, who have faced near-daily bombardments from Hezbollah operatives since the start of the October war in Gaza.
