U.S. Intelligence Blames Tehran for Hack Targeting Trump Campaign

United States intelligence services said on Monday that they were confident that the Islamic Republic was responsible for the breach of former President Donald Trump’s campaign computers earlier this month.

“We have observed increasingly aggressive Iranian activity during this election cycle, specifically involving influence operations targeting the American public and cyber operations targeting presidential campaigns," the Office of the Director of National Intelligence said in a joint statement with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. "This includes the recently reported activities to compromise former President Trump’s campaign."

On August 10, a spokesperson for the Trump organization announced that Microsoft had informed them that regime agents had successfully hacked one of their websites, prompting authorities to initiate an investigation.

The incident was confirmed by Politico, who reported that their editors received emails from an anonymous source in July that contained vetting information about the Republican party’s vice-presidential selection efforts. The sender also claimed to have copies of internal campaign communications and documents related to Trump’s legal cases.

An attorney for Roger Stone, a longtime associate of Trump, has stated that his client fell victim to a 'spear phishing' attack in June, which was likely the means of the intrusion.

U.S. officials also revealed in their summary that evidence shows the same illicit group tried to access Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign files.

The communication also noted that Tehran has become progressively worried about the outcome of the November election, as they see the event as “particularly consequential in terms of the impact they could have on its national security interests.”

The theocracy’s mission to the United Nations denied the allegations, describing them as "unsubstantiated and devoid of any standing."
