The New York Police Department (NYPD) on Wednesday evening ordered all of its personnel to report in uniform on Friday as Hamas’s former leader calls for demonstrations worldwide in support of Palestine.
Some public demonstrations have already materialized worldwide, including a prior pro-Palestinian rally in New York City sponsored by the Democratic Socialists of America. Anticipating that further demonstrations could get out of hand, the NYPD called up its officers in a memo obtained by the New York Post.
“All uniformed members of the service in every rank, will perform duty in the uniform of the day and be prepared for deployment,” it read.
Fighting erupted over the weekend when the terror group stormed out of the Gaza Strip and seized control of Israeli border towns, taking hostages and inflicting considerable civilian casualties. The brutal raid prompted retaliatory strikes on Gaza and the fighting has continued throughout the week.
At least 22 Americans died in the terror attacks.
As the NYPD takes precautions to handle any irate pro-Palestinian demonstrators, meanwhile, veteran Trump foreign policy officials have expressed concerns that terror groups have likely infiltrated the U.S. via the porous southern border.
“[W]e know Hezbollah has been active in Latin America; they’ve carried out attacks against Jewish targets in Argentina, for example,” former Trump Deputy National Security Advisor Victoria Coates said Tuesday on the “Just the News, No Noise” television show. “So they’re here. And the notion that they haven’t tried to cross the border in the last two and a half years, is pretty disingenuous.”
Hezbollah is the Lebanon-based Islamic terror group that has also clashed with Israel.
