An email sent out by the Canadian Broadcast Corporation (CBC), a publicly funded news outlet, has issued guidance to its journalists regarding the terminology to be used in their coverage of the ongoing war between Israel and the terror group Hamas.
Dated October 7th, the email, authored by CBC's director of journalistic standards, George Achi, has advised against the use of the term "terrorist" in their reporting.
Achi's rationale for this directive is that in his opinion “the notion of terrorism remains heavily politicized and is part of the story.”
The CBC director further argued “even when quoting/clipping a government or a source referring to fighters as 'terrorists,' we should add context to ensure the audience understands this is opinion, not fact. That includes statements from the Canadian government and Canadian politicians.”
Numerous online videos and news reports from yesterday depicted Hamas invaders carrying out acts of violence, which included the killing and abduction of Israeli civilians, including children and the elderly. In one widely reported video, a group of these terrorists can be seen sitting in the back of a pickup truck with a de-clothed and murdered German rave attendee who appears to have a bullet wound in her head, and significant orthopedic injuries.
Achi also asked CBC journalists to refrain from suggesting that Gaza is no longer occupied by Israeli military forces, despite the IDF's 2005 unilateral withdrawal from the coastal enclave.
