Danon, who has served in the Knesset as a member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party, previously held the post from 2015-2020 before it was announced in June that he would be replacing the incumbent representative Gilad Erdan.
In his earlier term, the 53-year-old from Ramat Gan was elected to head the General Assembly’s Sixth Committee, becoming the first Israeli to hold the chairmanship of a permanent U.N. commission.
