Twice as many Gazans participated in the October 7 massacre in southern Israel than was previously thought, according to a Saturday report by Israel’s Channel 12.
Reviewing new data from the IDF’s Gaza Division provided to Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, the broadcaster determined that during last year’s incursion, 3,800 terrorists from Hamas’s Nukhba unit were accompanied by an additional 2,200 Palestinians.
The 6,000 infiltrators constitute an almost twofold increase in the number of invaders previously acknowledged by defense officials in Jerusalem.
The ground forces dispatched by Hamas leadership were also said to have been supported by nearly 1,000 personnel launching some 4,300 rockets from Gaza, indicating that approximately 7,000 individuals from the coastal enclave took part in the day’s carnage.
In addition to the revision of the total amount of contributors to the rampage, Channel 12 disclosed that the entrance into Israel was made through 119 compromised border fence locations, almost double the original estimate of 60.
In a statement responding to the revised figures, an IDF spokesperson said, “The operational investigation has not yet been concluded and continues in accordance with the situation assessment and operational constraints. Once it is completed, it will be presented to the public in full transparency.”
The surprise attack that resulted in 1,200 Israeli fatalities and 251 abductions included widespread incidents of arson, defilement, looting, and sexual violence.
