Three Israeli guards were killed in a shooting at the Allenby Crossing along the West Bank–Jordan border, Israeli Emergency Services reported Sunday.
The Israel Airports Authority, which manages the Allenby Crossing border terminal, confirmed to CNN that three men died working at the crossing.
Alex Chen, who manages the crossing, said the shooter was a Jordanian driver. Chen said the crossing is closed indefinitely following the shooting.
"The terrorist shot dead three employees of the Allenby terminal at close range," Chen said of the assailant, whom a security guard killed.
After the attack, all land crossings between Israel and Jordan remain closed.
The Israel Defense Forces said, "a terrorist approached the area of the Allenby Bridge from Jordan in a truck, exited the truck, and opened fire at the Israeli security forces operating at the bridge."
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the shooter a "despicable terrorist."
The assailant's identity is unknown. The Jordanian Interior Ministry has opened an investigation.
