The leader of Canada’s Conservative Party said Wednesday he will file a non-confidence motion against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau when lawmakers reconvene next week.
After declaring he would act on the measure “at the earliest possible opportunity,” Pierre Poilievre called on the head of the left-wing New Democratic Party, Jagmeet Singh, to support his plans in removing the Liberal Party’s minority government and force new federal elections.
Poilievre’s actions come after Singh announced on September 4 that his caucus was ending a two-year-old assistance agreement it had negotiated with the Liberals over allegations Trudeau had become "too weak, too selfish, and too devoted to corporate interests to fight for people."
Singh refused to commit to backing the parliamentary procedure, telling reporters his bloc “will look at the votes and we'll make a determination of what's the best interest of Canadians.”
